Workshop on Green Wicket Conclave, Bengaluru

Cricket is in the hearts of millions of Indians and thus qualifies to be the best channel to promote eco awareness and motivate people to adopt green measures to contribute in saving the environment. The ‘Green Wicket Project’ designed by German International Development Cooperation (GIZ) is one such initiative to promote – ‘Energy Management and Resource Efficiency’ among the masses in India by first setting examples within the stadia and cricket fraternity. . International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM) is the execution partner of this project for Waste Management, Wastewater Management, Water Management and Greenery.

The two day Green Wicket Conclave was held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on May 29-30, 2018. The objectives of this conclave are to bring together various sporting associations on one platform, encourage sporting associations / facilities to take up Green initiatives and to share the best practices and technical knowledge in specific domains. There were around 50 participants from different cricket associations across India along with other sporting associations like Hockey, Football, Athletic, Basketball, Golf and Tennis. The conclave took place in the presence of Mr. Sanjay Desai, Honorary President, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Mr. Sudhakar Rao, Honorary Secretary, KSCA, Mr. Santhosh Menon, Honorary Assistant Secretary, KSCA, Mr. Srinivas Murthy, Honorary Treasurer, KSCA, Mrs. Margit Hellwig-Boette, Consul General, GIZ, Dr. Jacob Crasta, FKCCI, Mr. Joerg Gaebler, Principal Advisor, Green Wicket, Mr. Vinay Mruthyunjaya, MC Member, Official Spokesperson, KSCA and Mr. Lt Col Srinivas M.N. (Retd.), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), KSCA. Presentations were delivered from Ms. P. There was also stadium tour for all the delegates for a hands-on session on technical aspects of Green Wicket Project implemented at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
