Capacity Building Program on Bio-Medical Waste Management, Jabalpur District, Madhya Pradesh

International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM), Bengaluru organized a one day "Capacity Building Programme on Bio-medical Waste Management" on 27thAugust 2016 at Jabalpur District, Madhya Pradesh. The programme was intended for the medical personnel and the paramedical staff and was attended by 72 participants from various renowned hospitals of Indore and nearby areas.

The focus of the programme was to create awareness on the legal aspects and compliance of Bio-Medical Waste Management for the healthcare facilities and Liquid Waste Management for the Laboratories and develop a regional approach for effective management of waste through group discussions, periodic training for the staff and development of SOPs / checklists for the healthcare facilities.

Objectives of the programme were to:
  • Provide guidelines to the health care system on the opportunities for waste minimization and the reduction of air contamination from incineration of biomedical waste
  • Provide knowledge about strategies and appropriate handling techniques for biomedical waste management
  • Create awareness with focus on rules and guidelines related to health care safety issues related with disposal of biomedical wastes
  • Understand the new technologies available for safe disposal of biomedical wastes from environment friendliness point of view and infection control in hospitals
