Creating Business Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs in Wastewater Management

International Institute of Waste Management and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) organised a half day workshop on "Creating Business Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs in Wastewater Management in association with Laghu Udhyog Bharati-Karnataka (LUB-K) and Shashwathon on 5th August 2016, at KSPCB, Bangalore to bring together interested women entrepreneurs for Sewage Treatment Plant(STP) construction, operation and maintenance. 41 Women Entrepreneurs from various sectors attended this programme. The major participants were from the resident welfare association of various apartments and women entrepreneurs from across Bangalore and Kolar Districts.

This workshop provided various business ideas and approach to set-up Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in wastewater management sector and discussed future prospects with respect to handling STPs set up at the apartment complexes.

Objectives of the Training Programme:
  • To encourage women on entrepreneurial skills and come up with sustainable business models in wastewater management
  • To identify potential women and facilitate them in setting up business with appropriate and state of the art technology solutions
  • Mentor, train and hand hold these businesses to make them sustainable
  • To identify enabling policy/rules and help them avail the business opportunities.
  • To create a forum for service providers and wastewater generators and close the loop
