Sustainable Sanitation Initiative for Mysore District

International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM), Bengaluru organized a one day Training Programme on Evaluation of Implementation of Sanitation Schemes in Mysore on 8th Sep’2016, sponsored by ZillaPanchayath, Mysore and Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The focus of the training was to impart pilot exercise to assess the implementation gap in terms of administration, financial and technical components of the sanitation schemes in India.

The officials from Zilla Panchayath, Education Department, Gram Panchayath, Women and Child Welfare Department, National Informatics Centre and the corporates working in Sanitation sector were invited to participate in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD).

As part of this assignment a Focus Group Discussion was organized to gather the views of the stakeholders of Mysore District. The Training Programme was witnessed by 31participants across the district of Mysore.

Objectives of the Training Programme:
  • Ambiguity in beneficiary identifications
  • Schools and Anganwadi sanitation
  • Financial issues and Technical issues
  • Awareness related – Present strategy and changes required.
  • Evaluation of physical toilet structure and to ensure usage.
  • Role of corporates to be in sanitation to be looked.
  • Guidelines about the sanitation schemes need to be made clear and made known to general public at large.
  • Capacity building of field level officers.
