IIWM organized a one day Certificate Course on “Solid Waste Management” on 21st November 2017 at Hotel Ramanashree, Bruntun Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. The overall objectives of the course were to provide hands-on learning experience, to obtain technical ‘know-how’ on the best fit technologies/ practices for handling wastes and on compliance w.r.t. environment laws, to provide interaction / networking opportunities which on the whole helps in skill development and enhances capacities of the entrepreneurs who would demonstrate their competence to take up challenging responsibilities in the above said sector. A total of 15 apprentices attended the course which was targeted for aspiring entrepreneurs, NGOs working in the field of Solid Waste, Industry personnel working in the field of Solid Waste Management and similar areas etc.

The design of the course included classroom sessions combined with interactions, field visits and discussion forums. Eminent faculties conducted the classes that covered procedures for setting up a Solid Waste Management Facility, Legal Requirements, survey and local study procedures, Operation and Maintenance procedures, best available technologies for treatment and Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation. The apprentices were taken on field visits to Dry waste Collection Centre (DWCC), Composting Unit, Bio Methanization plant and Briquetting unit.
